Welcome to the Russell Byers Charter School!

The Russell Byers Charter School, a public elementary school located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia at 1911 Arch Street, opened for its eighth year on August 26, 2008, with 400 students from 37 neighborhoods. We offer 4K (Kindergarten for 4-year-olds) through 6th Grade, a student/teacher ratio of 22:1, and an innovative hands-on academic program, Expeditionary Learning.

What's New

We are now approved for United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania's Donor Choice Program. Our donor choice code is 42183.

Principal Thomas-El is the subject of an article in October's District Administration Magazine [99K PDF] written by Jennifer Esposito.

RBCS Improving Test Scores
As reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer on April 13, 2008, RBCS is listed in "Schools in the Region with Improving Test Scores" for both 5th grade math and reading.

This video was created by Marc Nathan, one of our "Big Brothers," to help support the RBCS chess team.

Lottery
Enrollment opens on October 6, 2008, and the application will only be available online. The lottery will be held at noon on Friday, December 12, 2008.

Principles in Action

Annual Founder's Day a Great Success!

Founder's Day brings together hundreds of students, staff members and supporters on Russell Byersı birthday to commemorate both his life as well as the founding of the school that bears his name.

During this year's celebration, the school presented the Founder's Award to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Marlene Olshan, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and 25 "Bigs" attended the ceremony.
